Pick Your Own...'cause these are MINE!

One of my husband and I's favorite family pastimes is to go to U-pick farms and harvest berries, produce, flowers, you name it. We were planning on going this weekend to pick blueberries, blackberries, and lavender but we have decided to go on an impromptu camping trip to the Whidbey/Camano Islands instead. Just because we cant go berry picking this weekend doesn't mean you cant, so I still wanted to share this awesome website with you! To find a pick-your-own farm near you check out this site, PickYourOwn.org.  Late July and August are the best for finding a wide array of ripe fruits and veggies. This is an awesome site that I have been using for years. You click on the country and state of your choice and it organizes all the farms based on counties. Before you grab your berry buckets, make a quick call to the farms. The website tries to stay as up-to-date as possible with hours and closures but you don't want to show up at the farm, drooling with anticipation only to find they are closed that day or worse yet closed up shop for good.

I wish you all a berry-stained-fingers-and-faces kind of weekend! When I return from our camping trip I hope to have some good pictures of a special campfire treat I have been waiting to share with you!

please please please. if you have any questions at all. comment them on my blog and i will be happy to answer them. or if you don't want me taking up comment space on your blog with my HUGE alaska comments, you can always email: greensubmarinedesign@gmail.com

YOU WILL LOVE ALASKA.

summers are great and the sun is out all day and night!
--- sorry it took me so long to comment back i just got back into town. but yes i have lots of advice for a girl moving to alaska. first of all the obvious: dress warm. i don't know if you have living in snow before. but really it is not that bad. i thought it was going to be awful, but the snow is pretty much the same amount any other state would get. the only thing that is different is the temp will be much much lower. so like i said, dress warm. also, for a girl who loves the bright and happiness that hawaii would have to offer i would def suggest investing in a mood light. it will get very very dark in the winter, only a couple hours of light a day. so the mood light will help you get up in the morning. trust me. they might be like 100 bucks, but totally worth every penny.

all in all it might be cold and dark here (in january time) but it really is beautiful! you will love it. gorgeous mountains and tree everywhere. also in anchorage there is a HUGE water airport, where the planes take off and land on the lake. on a sunny day grab some food to-go and check it out. you can eat/ relax and watch the planes take off. it is really pretty.
I love fresh fruit. The pics are amazing.
