Thanksgiving Menu & Cherished Recipes

Its hard to believe Thanksgiving is already less than a week away. Personally, I am thrilled! Thanksgiving could just be my favorite holiday. You get to gather with loved ones in a casual setting- enjoying company, food, and football before all the stress of Christmas sneaks in. It's the small things that remind me of all I am thankful for. I told my husband last week that I equate the tradition of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to that of Christmas stockings. It so my favorite thing to wake up for the parade and have cinnamon rolls for breakfast with my family.

Anyway, with Turkey Day fast approaching it is time to pull out the recipes and start planning the menu. Last year, my husband and I went full blown gourmet with it, and now there is no turning back. I hope it gives you some yummy inspiration if you are looking for some new Thanksgiving recipes. Read on for the meal plan and the recipes that knocked our socks off and left us drooling year round...

This was our Thanksgiving Menu from last year...

I am uber-excited to share my cranberry sauce recipe with you! That's right, I just said "uber."  I adapted my recipe from one I found on Epicurious. It was in the November 2009 edition of Bon Appetit. Their recipe calls for some fancy, harder to find ingredients for which I opted to sub for fresh produce. I added fresh pomegranate and basil, and swapped out the red wine for a lovely sweet port.

Next up, the turkey. This Roasted Heritage Turkey was hands-down the best Thanksgiving turkey we and our dinner guests had ever had! The recipe (also from Epicurious, Bon Appetit 2008) is intense and not for the faint of heart, but words cannot describe the bliss that is this turkey and even more importantly, its gravy. I have to admit I underestimated this gravy recipe by a long shot and didnt realize how long it would take. Every drop of it was worth every second though! This year I am going to make it a day ahead... we will see if it will make it to see the Thanksgiving table ;)

I have shared this with you before, but a great way to add some flair to regular mashed potatoes is to season them with Black Truffle Sea Salt. This is my no-fail secret ingredient! I found it at a local winery gift shop but now you can find it on Amazon for about $8 less than I paid. This makes a great stocking stuffer for the foodie on your list!

And lastly, one of the things I look forward to the most this time of year is hot mulled wine! Our hands-down favorite winery is Kestrel. They have an amazing and affordable table wine called "Lady in Red." They say it can be found nationwide, but you can also visit their site and order it based on the shipping policies in your State. We use it with our spice ball and cranberry juice to make our hot mulled wine. It makes for a delicious and crowd pleasing tradition. If you haven't heard of mulled wine and wonder what it is, you can kinda think of it as a fall spice sangria of sorts that's served hot. If you prefer an unaltered wine for dinner, their Signature line is exquisite.
So, those are the shining stars on my Thanksgiving table. What's your table going to look like? Do you have some cherished recipes? Please share!!! I am still looking for a way to spiff up all the other trimmings.

I am linking to these awesome parties and sites.

These recipes look so delicious! Thank you sharing them. Even though we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia I still make a Thanksgiving dinner and our family comes over. I might just try your sauce.

Best wishes,
Natasha.
PS I love mulled wine too!
I am equally excited for Thanksgiving! I get so controlling around the menu--haha! We have a sort of potluck at my house (sadly my family lives across the country and I don't get to see them until Christmas), but I have such a difficult time not just making everything so it's just the way I like it. :) This year, I am definitely making squash casserole, stuffing, and cranberry sauce . . . although I might have to make green bean casserole and roasted garlic mashed potatoes . . . see? I can't stop!

I totally get it! I am the same way! Would you mind sharing your squash casserole recipe? Its sounds delicious but I have never heard of it before. I am so excited for the green bean casserole too!! We are destined to live far from our family too (as long as Mr Hubs is in the military) so I get how you feel.
Em, that spread looks incredible! MMmmmm you've got my mouth watering for Thanksgiving : ) Just one more week! Yay! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday together.
Lots of love,
Laura

I do have family favorites but this year we are going to be with friends. First year I have not cooked for Thanksgiving in years :) Looks like you will have a fabulous Thanksgiving.
Great menu! My son's girlfriend has asked to take charge of Thanksgiving dinner this year. It's not easy giving up control of the kitchen, but I do appreciate her enthusiasm. I will definitely be passing along that cranberry recipe! I will have to try to get the wine and black truffle sea salt in time to try out at Christmas time. Thanks for sharing.

Wow thats a brave move on your son's girlfriend's part! I dont know if I would have the guts to take over the kitchen at my in-laws if we lived anywhere near them! Kudos to the gf! :) I hope you try the wine and the truffle salt. If you do, feel free to come back and rave about it ;) Have a great Thanksgiving Baye!
Saw you featured at Fireflies and Jellybeans. So many yummy recipes! I love the idea of having a menu for your Thanksgiving dinner, we are having Thanksgiving here this year and I might just have to use that idea.

My goodness, but this all looks delightful! We are forgoing a super-huge meal this year and are opting for a less-formal lunch. We'll see how it goes...In the meantime, I will be rethinking my decision based upon all of the yummy items you have featured!
